South Sumatra Acting Governor Supports Digital Literacy in the Government Sector to Be Digital Capable and Hoax Free

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Acting Regional Secretary for South Sumatra, Edward Candra, opened the 2024 Government Sector Digital Literacy with the theme “Peaceful Elections in the Digital Space” at the Digital Room at the Harper Palembang Hotel, Tuesday (5/3/2024).

This activity was carried out by the Information Empowerment Directorate of the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with the South Sumatra Provincial Government through the South Sumatra Diskominfo, South Sumatra BPSDMD and South Sumatra BKD. And starting with the virtual launch of National Digital Literacy, by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

Acting Regional Secretary, Edward Candra, said that the Acting Governor of South Sumatra, Agus Fatoni, strongly supports the development of digitalization and digital literacy within the South Sumatra Provincial Government. In fact, he also asked ASNs to become a smart generation and not easily believe hoax news.

“For this reason, the Acting Governor directed the OPDs to publish various positive activities which are development programs and achievements achieved by the South Sumatra Provincial Government. So that negative news can be covered by positive news and minimize the development of hoax news,

” he said. By implementing this activity, it is hoped that Edward will be able to form a healthy digital space and create political maturity to form intelligent, conducive, safe and peaceful voters. “In the future, for regional head elections, ASN in South Sumatra is still expected to be neutral as a glue and unifier of the nation and build public trust in building their voting rights,” he said.

According to him, in the digital era we are asked to be digitally proficient with the tagline increasingly digital proficient. One of them is by developing the implementation of sending correspondence and signatures electronically. “Apart from that, what needs to be developed is that ASN’s digital culture must be able to set an example of reducing negative content by creating positive content. And participants need to be given an understanding of digital ethics. “It is hoped that this activity will form digitally capable ASN,”

he concluded. Virtually, Jokowi expressed his invitation to all ASN in Indonesia to minimize negative content and increase positive content by increasing people’s skills to become cool content creators, calling for peace and increasing community productivity and advancing MSMEs/IKM which are able to utilize digitalization to become economic value for society. “I hope this activity can encourage community initiatives to become more proficient in using the internet for educational and productive activities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Informatics Empowerment at the Ministry of Communication and Information, Slamet Santoso, SH, MH, said that this activity will provide materials so that digital spaces can be productive by utilizing ASN functions in serving the community.

“After this activity, it is hoped that ASN will distribute their knowledge to other ASN to create a safe, creative and productive digital space. “And be an agent of change for the local community so that you can serve the community as well as possible,” he said.

The disclosure of digital literacy is also targeted to be conveyed to 50 million people who need to be literate. On the other hand, the Head of the South Sumatra Communications and Information Office, Rika Efianti, SE, MM, really welcomed this activity. According to him, digital literacy, especially regarding election neutrality in ASN, is very useful for increasing ASN’s role as a unifier of the nation.

“This digital literacy is so that we can understand how we should convey good information to the public, especially regarding positive things. “So that in the future we hope to become South Sumatra Smart Digital,” he stressed.
