Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday inaugurated the Kijing Port of Pontianak Port, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan), which is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of superior products from the province.
“Because here (West Kalimantan) has great power, Crude Palm Oil (CPO), alumina, bauxite and other products, and this port has a capacity of 500 thousand TEUs, as well as 8 million non-containers,” said the President. Jokowi while inaugurating Kijing Terminal, Pontianak Port, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, Tuesday, as broadcast live on the Jokowi Secretariat Youtube.
The President said the terminal at the port would be the largest in Kalimantan.
“This is the largest port on the island of Borneo. Earlier, the President Director of PT Pelindo asked, ‘how much, sir’, it’s really big like this, Rp. 2.9 trillion, “said the President.
With such a large cost, the President requested that the Kijing Terminal be used optimally to strengthen competitiveness, and improve inter-port, inter-island and inter-country connectivity.
In addition, the President also requested that the access road to and from the Pontianak Port be widened. He directly asked the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono to widen the access road to Kijing Terminal.
“This is where the Minister of PUPR is here so that we can finish it all, so that container and non-container travel can all run smoothly and our final goal of strengthening our competitiveness can be done,” he said.
The Head of State also welcomes if there are proposals or aspirations for changing the name of the port.
“Please submit it to the central government, to the President, I think we will accommodate all the aspirations, but today we have made it official,” said President Jokowi.
On the same occasion the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi explained that the Kijing Port of Pontianak Terminal is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN).
“This development is motivated by the Pontianak Port which is increasingly limited with siltation and is located in the middle of the city. Therefore, Kijing is expected to replace the Pontianak Port and provide space for industrial possibilities that grow in West Kalimantan which have extraordinary potential,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
