Governor of East Java submits decree on mangrove management

Sidoarjo, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa submitted a Decree of the Governor of East Java concerning the Working Group for the Management of Regional Mangrove Ecosystems of East Java Province which consists of elements from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, OPD related to the East Java Provincial Government, TNI-AL, BPN, Academics, mangrove activists and observers as well as community leaders .

The East Java Regional Mangrove Working Group (KKMD) Decree was handed over to the East Java OPD (Head of the East Java Province Fisheries and Maritime Service), UPT Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Lantamal V Surabaya, Academics (Airlangga University Surabaya), Mangrove Activists Community.

This working group is part of cross-sectoral institutional collaboration in the management of mangrove ecosystems in East Java. This working group will later formulate a roadmap for mangrove conservation and management in East Java.

She also witnessed the delivery of water transport insurance for Lusi Island visitors launched by the Regent of Sidoarjo, this insurance is a form of protection for people who travel to Lusi Island, Sidoarjo.

“This means that tourism on Lusi Island is already protected, meaning that there is strengthening of protection and hopefully this will benefit the people around Lusi Island,” said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa at the 3rd East Java Mangrove Festival at Tlocor and Island Marine Tourism. Lusi, Kedungpandan Village, Jabon District, Sidoarjo Regency, Sunday.

On the same occasion, the Deputy for the Coordination of Environment and Forestry Management of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Nani Hendiarti, said that the East Java Province is a superior province because it won many awards at the national level, including in the environmental field. For this reason, the implementation of the Mangrove Festival is a real action and concrete action in an effort to prevent global climate change and can be used as an example for other regions.

“I can see the potential of mangroves in East Java being developed. Earlier, not only did we plant mangroves, but we also planted other hard trees, then released birds and fish. And this effort is a real action to participate in protecting nature, protecting the environment, and saving the earth from global climate change,” she said.

Previously, Sidoarjo Regent Ahmad Muhdlor Ali said that Sidoarjo Regency is a buffer district or delta area.

Sidoarjo has a coastline of 33 kilometers and as much as 29.9 percent is in the form of ponds. This pond is very dependent on the environmental ecosystem. Moreover, the eastern part of Sidoarjo is an industrial area.

“So it’s like tiger prawns, only in a few places can they live because of environmental imbalance, an imbalance between massive industry and environmental preservation. We hope that the implementation of this mangrove festival will inspire us to continue to protect the environment,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
