BANYUASIN, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) H Herman Deru finally continued the completion of the construction of a bridge located in Tebing Abang Village, Rantau Bayur District, Banyuasin Regency.
The bridge, which has been stalled since 2007, is expected to be an alternative road connecting Banyuasin and Muara Enim Regencies.
Governor Herman Deru, during the ground break for the continuation of the bridge construction in Tebing Abang Village, Saturday (3/10) said that the South Sumatra Provincial Government has budgeted at least Rp 37 billion to resume construction of the bridge.
“I target this to be completed by the end of 2021,” said HD.
He believes, the bridge will be able to contribute to boosting the economy. Because, if the bridges and roads have been completed, it is not impossible that the area will become a golden triangle for Banyuasin Regency.
“This will not only connect Banyuasin and Muara Enim Regencies but also to Prabumulih City. Of course this area will become a golden triangle for Banyuasin,” he explained.
In addition, he assessed, the bridge will have an impact on the low operational costs of the community in distributing foodstuffs.
“Moreover, the majority of the population here are farmers, of course this bridge will help the community in distributing products produced from agriculture. The costs incurred will also be cheaper and access to delivery will be faster. So that it will boost the community’s economy,” he said.
He also emphasized that if the construction of the bridge and road has been completed, the agricultural land on the side of the road will not be converted.
“But I ask that the agricultural land around the bridge and road is not converted into other activities. This agriculture is South Sumatra’s spirit which must be improved. Agriculture can significantly reduce poverty,” he explained.
He emphasized that the focus of development so far has been solely for the welfare of the community.
“Whatever construction is being carried out, it must lead to the welfare of the community. I also ask the community to support by paying attention to the safety of the bridge workers so that later this bridge can be completed properly,” he added.
It is known, the Banyuasin Regency Government itself has indeed made efforts to resume the construction of the bridge. Even the Banyuasin Regency Government has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works for the completion of the bridge construction.
“Given or not assistance from the central government, we must finish this bridge. The South Sumatra Provincial Government has committed to complete its construction,” he said.
Meanwhile, Regent of Banyuasin H Askolani Jasi said that his party had long wanted to complete the construction of the bridge. It’s just that, the lack of a budget prevents these efforts from being realized.
“We are grateful to the governor who has helped. Moreover, the governor is targeting this bridge to be crossed by 2021. Of course we ensure this is beneficial for the community,” he concluded. (nfl/ril)
