Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that the government will oversee the 2024 Election as well as possible so that it runs smoothly.
Mahfud said this when giving a speech at the launching of the Election Channel at a private television station in Jakarta, Monday night (1/8), as quoted in a press release, Tuesday.
According to him, all things that are needed related to election preparation, including legal instruments, budgets, institutions, and scheduling have been discussed with the General Election Commissions (KPU), DPR, and Bawaslu.
“So that there is no misunderstanding, for example there is news today, that the election is a bit sluggish because the government funds are slow to disburse, that’s not true. Because it has been discussed with the KPU and all working partners. The funds needed are fully provided by the government,” said Mahfud.
Currently, continued Mahfud, the proposed additional KPU budget that has been approved by the government is Rp. 1.24 trillion.
“It’s just that if it’s not liquidated now, that’s easy, the KPU just needs to make the DIPA. If the DIPA is ready, it’s easy. If it doesn’t exist, the DIPA can’t yet, because it violates state finances. Therefore, the government guarantees this. Next, the budget will be provided, the next one will be provided,” Mahfud explained at the event which was also attended by the KPU Chair, Bawaslu Chair, and the leaders of this political party.
Mahfud explained that the KPU’s proposals had been approved, such as an increase in fees for the committee, although it was not 100 percent while the operational activities such as the construction of buildings in the regions had not been approved.
The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) advised the KPU to work hard with professionalism.
“Brothers, to the KPU I want to convey a message, you must really work hard, organize this election as well as possible, with full professionalism, because whatever you do, there must be someone who will sue. There is no election without a lawsuit. like that,” said Mahfud.
He also invited all Indonesian people to welcome the 2024 General Election as well as possible.
Mahfud hopes that the 2024 election can produce new members of the DPR, DPRD, DPD, President and Vice President to further advance Indonesia.
Also present on this occasion were leaders of political parties as candidates for the 2024 General Election, several partners and representatives of campus activists and the Student Executive Board. (mhn/bbs)
