Crime Rate Rises Before Eid

Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Police data show an increase in crime rates in the 19th week and 20th week or ahead of Eid this year. An increase of 245 cases was recorded.

The details are 3,481 cases in the 19th week, while in the 20th week there are 3,726 cases. Despite an increase in crime rates, the number of street crimes and drug cases actually has decreased.

Head of the Public Information Section of the National Police Public Relations Division Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan said the increase in crime rates reached around 7.04 percent.

“There are records that street crime, cybercrime, kidnapping, and narcotics have decreased significantly, namely between 1 to 57 percent,” he was quoted as saying by Cable News Network Indonesia.

During Operation Aman Nusa II in the context of handling Covid-19, the National Police had also disbanded a total of 1,357,361 times. Not only that, Ahmad said, his party has also carried out education and appeal to the community as much as 4,597,970 times.

Ahmad said the National Police together with the Soldiers (TNI) also held social assistance simultaneously in all parts of Indonesia. The move was carried out to help people affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

“This included giving to residents affected by Covid-19 a total of 2,366,495 basic food packages, 905,304 personal protective equipment and carrying out public kitchens totaling 6,750,” Ahmad said. (ras/bbs)
