Governor of South Sumatra H. Herman Deru when opening the 2020 South Sumatra Spice Festival initiated by the South Sumatra PKK Movement Team at the Palace of the Governor of Griya Agung Palembang, Saturday (24/10) morning, giving his appreciation for the ideas taken by the South Sumatra PKK.

As the coach of the PKK South Sumatra, he considered the initiation taken by the Head of the PKK, Feby Deru, to be extraordinary considering that South Sumatra has so far been known to have a lot of natural wealth in the form of spices, both that serve as a flavor flavoring for food or also function as natural or herbal medicines. Therefore, he hopes that there will be continuous education related to the types of spices, including the benefits that can be taken from these herbs.

As a form of continuing education, Herman Deru asked the Education Office to make this spice into learning local content. Especially for children aged PAUD.

“I ask the Education Office to introduce the knowledge of this spice plant to children at an early age. So that our children get the correct information so that they can maintain the spices around them,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the South Sumatra Province PKK Driving Team Hj. Febrita Lustia HD explained that spices are fragrant or strong-flavored parts of plants that are used in small amounts in food as a preservative or flavor in cooking.

Spices are usually distinguished from other plants which are used for medicinal purposes, vegetables, aroma or food flavor.

“History has proven this, even the nations of Europe came to the archipelago to hunt and control the spices of our country.

Spices are the most valuable merchandise. Apart from being used for cooking, spices are also made for medicinal purposes. It enriches the local culinary treasures, and is beneficial for improving health for the community, “said Feby.

She said the spice festival aims to introduce the existence of spices from Sriwijaya. In addition, to improve the community’s economy, help revive the people’s economy and MSMEs affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“This festival was attended by the TP PKK District / City of South Sumatra, women’s organizations that are members of the BKOW, the Indonesian Spice Council and the association of jamu gendong, as well as UMKM and culinary stands,” he said while mentioning that during the festival a spice bazaar was held. Talkshow, demonstrations to make health drinks from spices, exercise together, Gebyar Banggang Kemplang, vegetable arranging competitions and other interesting activities.

At the end of the event, the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, accompanied by TP PKK Hj. Febi Deru together with Forkopimda Sumsel agreed to review the spice stand delegates from regencies / cities throughout South Sumatra. (mhn/ril)
