Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said Indonesia would focus on carrying out a concrete cooperation program as the host of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in 2024.
“Like the G20 Indonesia, we want clear steps after WWF is running. Every program that is carried out, every issue that is discussed, there must be concrete steps that we can follow up on,” he said in a coordination meeting regarding the Preparation for the 20th WWF. 10, in Jakarta, Friday.
The coordination meeting was chaired directly by Luhut as Chair of the 10th WWF National Committee and also attended by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono as Daily Chair of the National Committee, Deputy Minister of Health (Wamenkes) Dante Saksono, and Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (Head of BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati.
The coordination meeting discussed the needs that would later be needed such as logistics, transportation, delegation accreditation, security and security, to publication of activities.
“This water issue is very important now for the world community and Indonesia. For the first time too, Indonesia is hosting this forum. This will be a good step for Indonesia and the world, to convey how important water is for everyone’s welfare,” he added.
Luhut also wanted that at the event, Indonesia could showcase the results of water management on the Citarum River in West Java and Lake Batur in Bali.
He also advised that all levels of the committee could continue to maintain cohesiveness in organizing this international event.
“Selection of Indonesia as the host is not an easy process and now we have this opportunity. Let’s coordinate everything as well as possible,” said Luhut.
The 10th WWF which was held from 18-24 May 2024 raised the theme Water for Shared Prosperity.
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono explained that there are six topics that will be discussed in the 10th WWF and are expected to produce concrete steps on water for the welfare of the world community.
The six topics are Water for Humans and Nature; Water Security and Prosperity; Disaster Risk Reduction and Management; Cooperation and Hydro-diplomacy; Water and Innovative Finance; and Knowledge and Technologies.
“We need to monitor the six sub-topics in the 10th WWF properly. Later we will present these six sub-topics at the Kick Off Meeting of the 10th World Water Forum which will be held on 15-16 February 2023 in Jakarta. There are 1,000 participants targeted attended and until now there have been a total of 672 people who have registered. We hope that the kick off meeting later can be a good start for the 10th WWF,” said Basuki.
The World Water Forum is an event held every three years by the World Water Council, the Global Water Partnership and the host country.
Indonesia was chosen to host the 10th WWF thanks to the votes of 30 countries from 36 countries that are included in the Board of Governors of the World Water Council.
The 10th WWF provides an important forum for all stakeholders in the water sector on a global scale, involving various stakeholders. This is a major milestone in Indonesia’s contribution to the global community’s efforts to manage water resources in a sustainable manner. (mhn/bbs)
