Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that many areas in Java and Bali, including the Jabodetabek agglomeration area, had their assessment level down to level 2 following the improving conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Currently, the Jabodetabek and Greater Surabaya agglomerations have returned to level 2 due to a decrease in daily confirmed cases and hospitalizations,” said the Social Restrictions (PPKM) Coordinator for Java-Bali in an online press conference related to the PPKM results in Jakarta, Monday. Luhut said the details of the areas that were downgraded would be described in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) published this Monday.
The Deputy Chair of the Covid-19 Handling Committee and National Economic Recovery (KPC PEN) explained that the decline in daily confirmed cases occurred in all provinces in Java and Bali.
In fact, the hospitalization rate in all provinces in Java and Bali has also decreased, with the exception of DI Yogyakarta.
Luhut revealed, in the last few days, the number of deaths in the provinces of DKI Jakarta, Bali and Banten, had decreased. He estimates that in the near future other provinces will also experience a decline, considering that deaths are cases of lagging indicators.
In addition to the improved PPKM assessment level, Luhut said that community mobility had also increased quite high again. This can be seen in the movement of Google Mobility data taken in the last week. With the improvement in pandemic conditions and increased mobility, Luhut also continues to encourage the acceleration of the second dose of vaccination, especially for the elderly.
“Currently, the achievement of the second dose of vaccination for the elderly is already at 62 percent for all of Java and Bali, but we will continue to pursue it even higher,” he added.
“I also beg and ask for the public’s willingness to return to the available vaccine outlets for the sake of recovering and improving the handling of this pandemic,” he said. (ojn/bbs)
