Minister of Home Affairs: State Civil Apparatus must remain as professionals in the midst of elections

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Minister of Home Affairs, Police General (Ret.) Tito Karnavian, reminded all state civil servants (ASN) in the country that their position must remain as professionals in the midst of the 2024 General Election and Simultaneous Election.

“Political dynamics to find the best leader please continue. Like a car engine, of course the political situation will heat up. However, the position of ASN must remain as a professional,” he said, at the signing ceremony of a joint decision from five agencies to guard the neutrality of ASN in the 2024 General Election and Simultaneous Election, in Jakarta, Thursday.

As contained in the explanation section of Law Number 5 of 2014 concerning ASN, professional ASN means those who always prioritize expertise based on a code of ethics and provisions of laws and regulations.

He also said that even though they have the right to vote, ASN is also not allowed to engage in practical politics and side with certain pairs of candidates or parties in the contestation in the 2024 General Election and Simultaneous Election.

In line with this, he welcomed the implementation of the joint decision signing activity from five agencies, namely the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the General Elections Supervisory Agency, the State Civil Apparatus Commission, and the State Civil Service Agency (BKN). to guard the neutrality of ASN in the upcoming 2024 General Election and Simultaneous Election.

He believes that the signing of the joint decision which contains guidelines for fostering and supervising the neutrality of ASN in the 2024 General Election and Simultaneous Election can ensure that ASN remains in a professional and neutral position in leading the running of the government amidst the momentum for the search for the best leader for Indonesia.

“With this commitment at the central level, we, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Kemenpan RB, BKN, KASN, and Bawaslu agree that whoever competes at the central, regional, or legislative levels to determine the best leader, we as ASN who oversee the wheels of government must remain in a neutral position,” he said.
