Badung, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in front of world interfaith leaders at the G20 Religion Forum (R20) said that Pancasila as the basis of the Indonesian state is a unifier of the nation.
In one of the discussion sessions at the R20 forum in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, Wednesday, he explained that Pancasila became a unifier of the nation because it not only functions as a symbol, but also a series of noble principles and values that were mutually agreed upon by the nation’s founders to ensure the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.
“With that, Pancasila is positioned as a shared vision for the achievement of the goals of the nation state that is being fought for. Pancasila is a sign of unity (a symbol of unity),” he said.
The discussion on Pancasila became the main theme of the speech of the Indonesian Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in the R20 forum, because at that session various government representatives and religious leaders shared experiences and insights on ways to resolve conflicts and divisions.
He explained that Pancasila, which is the basis of the Indonesian state, has an open ideological system so that it can be a tool to unite various differences.
“I believe that the principles of Pancasila are by default in the minds and behavior of Indonesians. It provides a retrospective tool, which is needed especially at a time when Indonesians collectively face the big problems presented by history and time,” he said.
He gave an example of the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the challenges faced by the Indonesian people that can be overcome collectively, without conflict or division.
“The experience of the pandemic in Indonesia proves this clearly without the voluntary participation of the people, without humanity and the will to be fair, it seems difficult for Indonesia to be able to overcome crisis after crisis and the globalization of the pandemic well,” said Yaqut.
