Sentani, The Indonesia Post – President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo officially launched the Papua Football Academy or (PFA) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Sentani, Papua, Wednesday.
At the launch of the PFA, President Joko Widodo was accompanied by a number of Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet including Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali, Minister of Investment/Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board, Bahlil Lahadalla, and Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir.
The President considered that the Land of Papua had produced extraordinary talents in the field of football such as Rully Nere, Boaz Solossa, Ramai Rumakiek and Ricky Kambuaya.
“I want to be like these football legends, the way is already there, namely the Papua Football Academy,” said President Jokowi.
The President said at the Papua Football Academy (PFA) to achieve the children’s achievements, they would be trained in discipline and regular training.
“Therefore, I hope that the children at the Papua Football Academy will take advantage of this good opportunity to gain knowledge in the field of sports,” he added.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia Tony Wenas expressed his gratitude to President Joko Widodo who launched PFA directly.
“This is a tremendous form of support and care for us,” he said
Papua Football Academy is a forum for Papuan sons to gain knowledge of football while carrying out the formal education provided in this program.
Where students are prepared to become competitive, creative, and competitive individuals.
Thus, he hopes that the PFA can restore the glory of football in Papua and build Papuan young talents who are more professional in the world of sports.
PFA Director Wolfgang Pikal explained that the training in the academy is structured with comprehensive sports science in mind covering the technical aspects of football, analysis, nutrition, psychology in sport, physiology and injury management.
“Formal schools and skills courses are one of the assessment factors for student development and are delivered in creative and innovative ways of teaching,” he said.
The Indonesian Football Philosophy (Filanesia) is the basis for the curriculum of the Papua Football Academy and the learning of techniques and intelligence in football.
“The academy is run in accordance with the implementation of the FIFA Children’s Safeguarding Principles, to ensure the comfort of playing football for young players,” he said.
For the first year of PFA, he said, as many as 30 Papuan sons were selected from a total of 477 people who registered in which the selection process for talent search was competitive and transparent in three cities, namely Timika, Merauke and Jayapura in June 2022.
All students receive full scholarships to study soccer for two years and All Students live in professionally managed dormitories and train in the best facilities at the Mimika Sports Complex built by PTFI.
Carrying the spirit of Papua for Indonesia, it is hoped that the presence of the Papua Football Academy will prove the contribution of Bumi Cenderawasih to the progress of the nation. (ojn/bbs)
