President Jokowi urges G20 to bridge the acceleration of energy transition

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo encourages the G20 multilateral cooperation forum to bridge the acceleration of the energy transition which is faced with a number of challenges.

This was conveyed by the President when giving a keynote address at the S20 High Level Policy Webinar virtually, as shown on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel in Jakarta, Thursday.

“The G20 is expected to bridge and encourage developing and developed countries to join the G20 to accelerate the energy transition process, strengthen a just and sustainable global energy system in a global agreement,” the President said.

The President also emphasized that G20 member countries must continue to build more collaborations to facilitate access to affordable energy services.

“Countries with heavy burdens must be assisted and provided with facilities. Countries that are ready can go first, while helping other countries that cannot afford it,” he added.

According to the President, this is also needed to encourage the creation of technological innovations, funding breakthroughs, and the formulation of consistent and sustainable strategies.

Previously, the President explained that the energy transition is not only about changing the behavior of fossil fuel consumption to the use of new and renewable energy. This transition involves many complex aspects from science and technology to socio-economic and environmental issues.

The President explained that there are at least three major challenges in the energy transition, namely access to clean energy, funding issues, and research and technology support.
