Sandiaga invites Singapore to collaborate on tourism and the creative economy

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno expects investment to come from Singapore in the sports tourism sector, ecotourism, health tourism, and the development of creative economy products.

This is because the border between Indonesia and Singapore through Batam and Bintan has been opened, so it is an opportunity for the two countries to develop collaboration in a number of these sectors.

“Instead of us competing, I think it would be better if we collaborated together. I know that the market opportunities in these sectors are huge,” said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno during a meeting with Singapore’s Minister of Finance Lawrence Won and Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong in Jakarta, Wednesday, in an official statement.

During the meeting, Menparekraf Sandiaga revealed that the policy of revoking the mandatory use of masks, which President Joko Widodo announced on Tuesday (17/5), became a momentum for Indonesia and Singapore to restore the tourism and creative economy (parekraf) sectors after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Then, the Indonesian government is said to have revoked the obligation for PCR/antigen tests as a condition for domestic and international travel.

“This is big news for the recovery of the tourism sector and the creative economy,” said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

He further stated that there were several sub-sectors of the creative economy that developed rapidly in Indonesia during the pandemic, such as applications and games and films.

Moreover, he said, in the 2022 Sea Games, Indonesia wiped out gold and silver medals in the e-sports branch of the Free Fire game.

“The games developed by Garena, which as we all know, are companies from Singapore. We in Indonesia also have game development companies that still need investment, so we hope that our collaboration can facilitate investment for game developers,” said Sandiaga Uno.

Singapore’s Minister of Finance Lawrence Won said that his party is ready to collaborate with Indonesia to develop the tourism sector which is better than before the pandemic.

“Now Singapore’s tourism has reached 50 percent of its pre-COVID-19 achievements, so I hope next year it can match and even exceed its pre-COVID-19 achievements. If tourism has recovered, I hope that Indonesia and Singapore can mutually benefit each other, particularly in the field of tourism.” cruises, flight packages and other cooperation opportunities,” he said.
