Indonesian Taekwondo wins first gold

Hanoi, The Indonesia Post – The Indonesian Taekwondo team bagged the first gold medal in the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games thanks to Muhammad Bassam Raihan’s victory in the final match at Tay Ho Gymnasium, Hanoi, Vietnam, Wednesday.

Competing in the men’s under 63 kg kyorugi (fighting) event, Bassam won a landslide victory 14-3 from host athlete Vietnam Quang Tien Ngo.

Meanwhile, in another class competition which was also held today, Indonesia was only able to bring home three bronzes, which were respectively won by Osnando Naufal Khairudin (U74kg), Mariska Halinda (U57kg), and Megawati Tamesti Maheswari (U53kg).

The Indonesian taekwondo team will continue the gold medal hunt on Wednesday through Dinda Putri Lestari who will compete in the women’s U62kg class.

So far, the Indonesian taekwondo team has won one gold, one silver, and eight bronze from the target of two gold medals at the Vietnam SEA Games.

Indonesia was strengthened by 10 athletes in the kyorugi category and 4 athletes in the poomsae category.

In the poomsae category, none of Indonesia’s representatives succeeded in donating gold. Of the four numbers contested, the Red and White team was only able to win bronze medals in the individual men’s, women’s, and men’s teams. (ojn/bbs)
