South Sumatra’s Economy Remains Resilient in the Middle of a Pandemic

PALEMBANG, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) H. Herman Deru, together with other regional heads in Indonesia, listened to President Joko Widodo’s directives at the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) related to the 2020 Government Procurement of Goods and Services which was carried out virtually.

When discussed on the sidelines of this national meeting, Herman Deru said, although it was done virtually, it did not reduce the meaning to be achieved. Primarily, in every procurement, there should be no mistake due to lack of understanding. For this reason, the President provides specific directions.

“Through this national coordination meeting, the President invites the Provincial and Regency / City Governments to understand correctly the policies, procedures and regulations that contain the legality of the procurement of goods and services. Therefore, it is important for stakeholders to understand the policies, procedures, and main rules related to the main procurement in the midst of the current pandemic, “said Governor Herman Deru at the Excelton Hotel, Palembang, Wednesday (11/18/20) morning.

Herman Deru said, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, hard work was needed so that the economic sector could survive, for this reason it was necessary to encourage Small and Medium Industries (IKM) and MSMEs to innovate in inserting their products.

“The economy of South Sumatra can survive the current pandemic. It is also encouraged by the IKM and UMKM,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo when opening the Rakornas virtually from the Bogor Presidential Building said that the challenges in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic were very difficult. Because of that he invited local governments to continue to build the economy amid the pandemic outbreak by increasing spending on the MSME sector.

“We will encourage local governments to maximize the government spending sector so that the Indonesian economy remains in a safe condition,” said Jokowi.

The President also said that the purchase of domestic products has a big effect in boosting the movement of the national economy. This spending process is asked to be seriously carried out at a higher level and not just a formality.

“Purchasing of domestic products has large multi-effects on the movement of the national economy. This must be maximized properly,” said Jokowi.
