The government maintains the stability of the price of chicken meat and eggs

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The government is trying to maintain stability in the price of broiler meat and eggs at the consumer level in 2022, following the production of broiler meat and eggs which is predicted to be in surplus.

The average national price of purebred chicken meat as of March 8, 2022 reached Rp. 36,000 per kg and the price of national chicken eggs reached Rp. 24,850 per kg.

“Our hope is that we can slowly maintain price stability and that poultry products will continue to be created at an economic price level,” said Deputy for Food and Agribusiness Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Musdhalifah Machmud in the webinar “Shrimp and Poultry Business Activities in the Year of the Water Tiger,” which was monitored in Jakarta, Thursday.

Musdhalifah explained that the price of broiled chicken at the consumer level in early 2022 tends to increase, but then fell in February and is now starting to rise. While the price of chicken eggs at the consumer level tends to fall, but now the price is starting to rise.

The production of broiler meat in 2022 is estimated to reach 4.07 million tons with a total demand of 3.19 million tons. Thus, it is estimated that there will be a production surplus of 883 thousand tons.

The production of broiler eggs in 2022 is also predicted to reach 5.92 million tons, exceeding the demand which reached 5.31 million tons, so there is a surplus of 615 thousand tons.

For this reason, the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture has issued a Circular Letter on February 16, 2022 regarding the regulation and control of the final stock of broiler DOC products for February and March through fertile HE cuttings.

“This will continue to run and hopefully can overcome the overstock that occurs in broilers and eggs,” she said.

Not only the price of chicken meat and eggs, the government, continued Musdhalifah, is also trying to keep the price of livebird and broiler eggs at the farmer level so that it does not fall below the reference price.

She said the price of livebirds at the breeder’s level tended to fall, but starting in March the prices slowly began to improve. Likewise, broiler eggs at the farmer level in early 2022 which tend to fall and are below the reference price. However, as with livebird, prices are starting to rise.

The average national livebird price as of March 7, 2022 reached Rp. 20,552 per kg and the price of national chicken eggs at the farmer level reached Rp. 21,535 per kg. (mhn/bbs)
