Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered his staff to ensure that all food commodities are available and affordable by the public, ahead of the high consumption momentum at Eid al-Adha, in July 2022.
“Anticipated food must be available, at affordable prices,” said Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) conveying President Jokowi’s direction in the Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday.
Zulhas admitted that he was ordered by the President to immediately lower the price of bulk cooking oil in all provinces to Rp. 14,000 per liter according to the price set by the government.
He targets that within one month, the price of bulk cooking oil can fall evenly in all regions to Rp. 14 thousand per liter.
“Inshallah, the cooking oil will be Rp. 14,000 (per liter). Our target is a month, plus simple packaging which will be carried out soon,” he said.
Before the Plenary Cabinet Session, Zulhas claimed he had found a common thread in the cooking oil issue.
He will ensure the supply of bulk cooking oil is maintained in three distribution channels covering 10 thousand points. He believes that this solution can solve the problem of bulk cooking oil distribution lines.
“This bulk oil, I already know the common thread, yes. There are three distribution channels, there are 10 thousand points, now I’m ordering it to be installed at more than 10 thousand points, people can buy it at a price of Rp. 14,000,” he said.
The second step prepared by the Minister of Trade is to develop simple packaging for bulk cooking oil, in order to facilitate the distribution process, especially in reaching remote areas of Indonesia.
“For example, how to carry gallons far away. For example, in Maluku, yes, so that the packaging can later be accepted where the distribution route will be easier,” he said.
Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked his staff to ensure that the price of bulk cooking oil in all provinces was equivalent to the government regulation of Rp. 14,000 per liter. He has inspected markets in West Java and Banten and found that the price of bulk cooking oil is in accordance with government regulations at a price of Rp. 14,000 per liter.
“I am happy yesterday that I came to several markets in West Java and yesterday I checked again in Banten, the price of bulk cooking oil was already at Rp. 14 thousand. But is it only in two provinces? We hope that in all provinces it will be at that figure,” said the President. (ojn/bbs)
