Kyoto, The Indonesia Post – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin held a bilateral meeting with Kyoto Governor Nishiwaki Takatoshi at the Kyoto Guest House, Kyoto, Japan, Wednesday, discussing economic cooperation and protecting Indonesian citizens.
Starting his remarks, the Vice President said that the closeness between Indonesia and Japan was reflected in the many collaborations carried out between the two countries, one of which was the active cooperation between the Province of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and the Prefecture of Kyoto since 1985.
“The cooperation between the Sister Provinces of Yogyakarta and Kyoto has gone well through cultural and educational exchanges,” said the Vice President in Kyoto, Japan, Wednesday.
The Vice President said that through the exchange many people from the two countries had gained cross-country experience.
“There are more than 1,300 Indonesians living in Kyoto, the majority are students and interns,” he explained.
On this occasion, the Vice President revealed two important points which were the main agenda of his working visit to Japan this time. First, namely efforts to increase economic cooperation.
“Indonesia is ready to become the main partner for halal business development in Kyoto,” he said.
The development of this halal business, explained the Vice President, can be carried out, among other things, through cooperation in halal certification for Japanese products, such as food, beverages and medicines.
He hopes that the strengthening of economic cooperation can be continued in other business sectors.
“I hope this cooperation can continue to be strengthened with other potential sectors, such as trade in superior commodities, agriculture or food security,” said the Vice President.
Second, regarding the protection of Indonesian citizens, the Vice President appreciates the commitment of the Kyoto Prefectural Government which has so far provided services in ensuring efforts to protect Indonesian citizens in Kyoto.
“I hope that the Kyoto Prefectural Government can continue to support the efforts of the Government of Indonesia in providing optimal and excellent protection and service to Indonesian citizens abroad,” concluded the Vice President.
Meanwhile the Governor of Kyoto Nishiwaki Takatoshi at the meeting congratulated Indonesia on the success of the G20 chairmanship in 2022.
“I feel that Indonesia has succeeded in becoming the Chair of the G20,” said Nishiwaki.
He hoped President Jokowi’s meeting with Japanese PM Fumio Kishida which discussed Asia Zero Emissions could be carried out and realized.
“Once again I thank you for Indonesia’s chairmanship. We are very happy to welcome our 50 year relationship,” said Nishiwaki.
At the end of the meeting, the two figures exchanged souvenirs where Vice President Ma’ruf Amin received a Kyoto folding fan from the Governor of Kyoto, while Kyoto Governor Nishiwaki received a plaque of Borobudur Temple in a frame from the Vice President. (mhn/bbs)
