Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Chairperson of the House of Representatives Commission I Meutya Viada Hafid asserted that the House of Representatives together with the Government are committed to continuing to encourage the progress of the national defense industry, given the importance of the defense industry in maintaining national sovereignty.
President Joko Widodo has also promised to encourage the national defense industry, and the House of Representatives Commission I has issued Law Number 16 of 2012 concerning the Defense Industry which encourages the national defense industry to host its own country.
“Therefore, we are encouraging that currently being explored is 4 billion bullets (ammunition), then there are several types of weapons that are also in the process of contracting with the Ministry of Defense and Rantis (Tactical Vehicles) Maung,” said Meutya.
As is known, the Ministry of Defense and PT. Pindad has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) providing 1 billion ammunition per year. From 2020 to 2023, PT. Pindad will supply 4 billion ammunition to the Ministry of Defense with a budget of Rp 19 trillion.
In 2020, the Ministry of Defense has a budget of up to Rp 131 trillion, up from 2019 which was only Rp 110 trillion. While in 2021, the Ministry of Defense has proposed an additional budget of up to Rp 129.3 trillion.
The size of the budget must be able to provide added value to the domestic defense industry.
