In percentage terms, the injection rate of booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has been given to 23.17 percent of the total population targeted for the COVID-19 vaccination, amounting to more than 208 million people.

The population who received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine increased by 67,853 people to a total of 168,251,795 people or 80.78 percent, while the recipients of the first dose increased by 58,920 people so that the total number of the first doses reached 201,000,560 people or the equivalent of 96.5 percent.

Previously, the spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito, in a virtual press conference, Tuesday (14/6), said health experts agreed that the current COVID-19 vaccine was still effective in increasing the protection of the human body from the new variant of COVID-19. emerging.

“According to preliminary studies in Europe, the new variants BA.4 and BA.5 undergo characteristic changes that are more quickly transmitted and avoid the immune system than the previous variants. Keep in mind, these conclusions are still temporary and require further studies,” he said.

Based on the results of the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) study, he said, the chance of transmitting new variants of COVID-19, such as the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, could decrease in someone who has been vaccinated.
