Anticipation of Food Crisis in Extreme Weather El Nino, HD Expected to Pursue the Overstock Target of 1 Million Tons

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The El Nino Extreme Climate Coordination Meeting (Rakor) chaired directly by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. H. Syahrul Yasin Limpo, SH., M.Si, MH held at Griya Agung.

On that occasion, Yasin Limpo said that his presence in South Sumatra was a task mandated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo in order to prepare national food security by increasing agricultural productivity in South Sumatra which has a good productivity trend to deal with extreme El Nino weather.

“I am coming to South Sumatra to ask for help from Mr. Herman Deru, help this nation. The interests of South Sumatra have been completed, who wants to take care of Indonesia. Let’s chase the 1 million ton surplus target by working together in all sectors related to agriculture,” he said. in giving a speech.

He added that Indonesia will face extreme El Nino weather around August and September which will have an extraordinary impact, therefore he hopes that the program to increase agricultural productivity can run no later than August.

On the same occasion, HD expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, this gave enthusiasm and motivation for farmers in South Sumatra in facing the extreme El Nino weather.

In addition, HD also said that Bulog’s uptake of agricultural products in South Sumatra could be increased again.

HD also explained that one of the factors that has made a good trend in agricultural productivity in South Sumatra cannot be separated from the role of 2,000 agricultural extension workers who were appointed by themselves to provide education on how to produce and provide guidance to farmers in managing their finances.
