Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Deputy Minister of SOEs I Pahala Mansury revealed that electric vehicles (EVs) can save government subsidies related to fuel.
“With people moving from fuel-powered vehicles to electric vehicles, we can save on government subsidies related to fuel,” Pahala said at the SOE International Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali on Monday.
Pahala said the development of an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia is important because electric vehicles will be able to reduce Indonesia’s dependence on fuel, so that Indonesia can reduce fuel imports and fuel subsidies.
All parties, he continued, would benefit if Indonesia could build an electric vehicle ecosystem.
Previously, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi supported efforts to accelerate the transition of fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles starting from motorcycles, in line with the target of two million electric motorcycles in Indonesia by 2025.
According to him, three main things that must be considered and continue to be improved are the quality of the battery, increasing the number of charging stations or places to replace batteries that can be obtained easily, and the quality of the engines of electric vehicles.
The Minister of Transportation assessed that the increasing number of electric motorcycle users in addition to nourishing the earth from air pollution, is also expected to help reduce fuel energy subsidies which reached Rp502 trillion.
The Minister of Transportation further revealed that the government has encouraged the acceleration through regulations. Meanwhile, universities through research, and industry players carry out massively and produce electric vehicles at more economical prices and with good quality. (mhn/bbs)
