HD Collaborates with MCC to Develop South Sumatra Infrastructure

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru received the Due Diligence Program Compact 2 Team by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in the context of discussing infrastructure development in South Sumatra, one of which was the South Sumatra LRT.

“Regarding the LRT, we want to save assets and trigger the LRT to become a mode of transportation that people are interested in. It takes effort to change people’s tastes from the habit of transporting with certain tools to certain tools, of course there must be advantages and attract people’s interest,” he said.

According to HD, the addition of adequate facilities for LRT users and has advantages over other vehicles will certainly attract public interest. HD said that the proposals that had been submitted to MCC had been given based on need, which consisted of super-priority and priority proposals. HD asked for coordination and discussion with the South Sumatra Provincial Government and transportation experts from South Sumatra.

In addition, HD also hopes that there will be developments in the infrastructure of the Lematang Bridge in order to reduce the steep contours of the road, which causes many accidents to take lives. He also hopes that MCC will also support the realization of the construction of the Tanjut Carat Port in South Sumatra.

Director of Transportation at Bappenas, Ikhwan Hakim, said that MCC is here to develop infrastructure to encourage innovation. The purpose of this visit is to discuss what the direction of LRT development is, how to help prepare the project and encourage innovation in financing.

Meanwhile, MCC Indonesia Representative Director, Martha L Bowen, said that his party wanted to learn with Governor HD and his team to find the right and optimal solution for the LRT development in South Sumatra and also the transportation system that would be developed in the future in collaboration with the technical team from MCC and also the Provincial Government.
