HD: Religious leaders have an important role in realizing progress for the region

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru said religious leaders have an important role in realizing progress for the region. Because as a state administrator, the government needs input so that policies that will later actually side with the community.

“Thoughts from ulema are very much needed for government administrators like us to develop the region,” said Herman Deru, interrupted by ta’aruf or the inauguration of the board of directors of the South Sumatra Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), at Griya Agung Palembang, Wednesday (20/10).

According to him, MUI has three main missions related to the progress of the nation, such as strengthening religion in the way contained in Pancasila, participation of ulama in national development, and maintaining harmony between religious communities.

“The mission of the MUI is intellectual and builds the character of the community. Input from the MUI is very useful even though the fatwa will be at the center, because this government needs a mouthpiece in determining policy steps to benefit the community,” he explained.

He explained, in South Sumatra itself has a fairly important role. One of them is contributing to maintaining the zero conflict label in South Sumatra.

“There are some tasks that must be carried out by MUI with FKUB, namely maintaining inter-religious harmony because South Sumatra is attached to the label zero conflict. Because this conflict is usually initiated because of differences in understanding both in the field of religion and certain sects,” he explained.

In addition, MUI must also play a role in assisting the government in changing people’s lifestyles which are often associated with material.

It is known that at this time the MUI of South Sumatra for the solemn period of 2021-2026 is still chaired by Prof. KH Aflatun Muchtar. (mhn/ril)
