HDCU Inaugurates the Cempako Telok Roundabout Fountain Monument, a New Icon and Public Space for the Palembang Community

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru accompanied by South Sumatra Deputy Governor Cik Ujang together with Palembang Mayor Ratu Dewa accompanied by Deputy Mayor Prima Salam attended the Inauguration of the Revitalization of the Cempako Telok Monument, Air Mancur Roundabout located at the zero point right in front of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Jayo Wikramo Grand Mosque in Palembang, South Sumatra, Sunday (15/3/2026) evening. Also present at the inauguration was Ustadz Abdul Somad (UAS) who read a prayer during the inauguration.

The Cempako Telok Monument at the fountain roundabout has undergone a major revitalization. There is an ornament inscribed Palembang Darussalam on the monument as a reminder of the long history of the Islamic sultanate that once triumphed in the Land of Sriwijaya. The flower petals that adorn the monument symbolize faith, wisdom, and the spirit of mutual cooperation. Meanwhile, the Asmaul Husna carving further emphasizes the religious nuances inherent in the city’s icon.

The monument’s revitalization was made possible thanks to a collaboration between the South Sumatra Provincial Government and the Palembang City Government. The budget for the monument’s construction came from assistance from the Governor of South Sumatra to the City of Palembang.

According to Herman Deru, the construction of this monument is not simply an urban infrastructure project. He views it as a symbol of pride for the people of South Sumatra and a new identity for the city of Palembang.

“This place will be a memorable landmark for anyone who comes to Palembang,” said Herman Deru.

He hopes the icon will inspire the community to continue advancing Palembang as the capital of South Sumatra Province. (mhn/ril)
