Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Deputy Chairman of the Press Council, M Agung Dharmajaya, is optimistic that the management of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), which will later be elected at the XXV PWI Congress, will continue to be able to maintain its competence.
“With the increasing number of journalists, of course they must have competence,” said M Agung Dharmajaya when contacted by Antara in Jakarta Monday.
He reminded that there are several challenges for members of the press in the future, one of which is artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
According to him, AI technology cannot yet replace the way journalism works. Journalistic ethics in reporting cannot be replaced by AI.
“With AI, it feels like things have become easier for people, but journalistic work has not been replaced. We remind you that AI is only a tool, you still have to uphold the journalistic code of ethics so that you produce work that is not only correct, but also good,” he said.
At the XXV PWI Congress which will be held from Tuesday to Wednesday (27/9) in Bandung, West Java, improvements to the organization’s Articles of Association/Bylaws (AD/ART) will be formulated.
Apart from that, the Congress will also elect a general chairman, advisory board, honorary board, and elected administrators, of whom up to now there have been several names of candidates who have declared themselves as candidates for General Chair of the Central PWI.
“Congratulations to PWI for holding the congress. As a large professional journalist organization, it is hoped that the congress will run well and be successful in producing leaders or heads of organizations who can certainly bring PWI into a much better future,” said M Agung Dharmajaya.
