MY: Not only nature, the traditions of the people of South Sumatra have tourism value too

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, H. Mawardi Yahya (MY) received Paras Budaya Magazine with an agenda for inclusive interviews on culture and tourism in South Sumatra in the Living Room of the Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, Tuesday, 16/2/2021).

On that occasion, the Editorial Board, Yudi Sarofi and the Managing Editor, Riantoro asked MY questions related to tourism and cultural developments in South Sumatra. Responding to this, MY said that the nature owned by South Sumatra was still less competitive than other Indonesian regions,

“for that we must take advantage of the culture, customs and biographies of the South Sumatra region so that it can be used as a new tourist reference in South Sumatra. With local wisdom I am sure tourists will visited to get to know South Sumatra better, “MY said.

“We also have to change our mindset about tourism, that tourism is not only synonymous with nature,” added MY.

Regarding culture, MY is concerned about young people today. Because their view of the school is so wrong that they have to work after graduating from school, MY hopes that this mindset can be changed.

“We have to change this bad culture. They can apply their ancestral cultural heritage such as gardening to meet their basic needs which also have economic value in it, indirectly they participate in preserving the culture and life habits of the previous South Sumatra people”, said MY.

MY also said that in communicating, the people of South Sumatra also have a cultural heritage that must be preserved, namely the use of figurative words and rhymes in communicating so that the message conveyed does not have an offensive effect.

“The use of wise proverbs, figurative words and rhymes is a way of communicating that was passed on by our ancestors, of course we must apply and preserve this,” pleaded MY.

Ending the meeting, MY hopes that the customs, culture and living habits of the people of South Sumatra can be highlighted so as to provide tourism value to this.
