Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani appreciates President Joko Widodo’s attitude in forbidding ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet to create polemics regarding the discourse of postponing general elections (elections) or extending the term of office of the president.
“We certainly hope that the ministers will follow the President’s orders, so that they can focus more on helping the President overcome various national problems, especially the increase in various commodity prices that are burdening the people at this time,” said Puan in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Puan expressed her appreciation after meeting Jokowi at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Wednesday.
According to her, if there is a reason that the discourse is legitimate in a democratic country, then the topic of people’s economic recovery becomes more important to be discussed in the public sphere.
She said that currently the people do not need to talk about postponing the election or extending the president, but the people are more concerned with how the prices of basic commodities are not soaring and easy to obtain, especially ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
When the Government, through its ministers, continues to promote the discourse of postponing elections or extending the term of office of the president, it will actually reduce public confidence in the Government.
“If trust in the government declines, it is precisely all elements of the nation that lose. Even though at times like this, cooperation and mutual assistance from all elements of the nation, such as the government, state apparatus, the private sector, and all the people, are needed to recover together from the impact The COVID-19 pandemic has hit us for the past two years,” she said.
She also invited all elements of society to unite the nation’s energy to overcome economic challenges so that together they can take advantage of the momentum of the COVID-19 transition economic recovery well. (ojn/bbs)
