South Sumatra DPRD Summons UIN Raden Fatah Rector and Banking related to the Student UKT Polemic

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Legislative Council (DPRD) for the Province of South Sumatra (Sumsel) will summon the rector of the State Islamic University (UIN) Raden Fatah Palembang, Monday (14/2/2022) regarding the polemic of the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) for students who are reported to be threatened if they do not pay off within a certain time limit. bulk drop out (DO).

The meeting is scheduled to find solutions and middle ground.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of Commission V of the South Sumatra DPRD, Susanto Adjis, after receiving dozens of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang students, the majority of whom were in the final semester, at the South Sumatra DPRD, Friday (11/2/2022).

“After we hear the complaints from the younger students, we will convey this to the leadership. Through the leadership of the board, we will summon the Rectorate and Banking regarding UKT payments,” said Susanto, accompanied by Deputy Chairman Mgs Syaiful Fadli.

He also asked the students who conveyed their aspirations to them, to be patient and entrust this to the representatives of the people of South Sumatra.

“In front of you I emphasize, do not doubt us, because we have no burden. But to summon the rectorate and banking, we have a mechanism that must be followed, we will send a letter. The results of today’s meeting, we attach to the leadership of the DPRD. Hopefully today we will send a letter to the UIN Rector,” he said, greeted with applause from dozens of students who were present in the Banggar room of the South Sumatra Provincial DPRD.

Previously, commission V would also ask students to make a written chronology.

“So that we can also provide accurate data to the Rector, how many students object, what majors, what semester, so we talk about data. Hopefully it can be resolved well,” he said.

Commission V also asked the students to be united, and not to “get a cold” while struggling.

“We are fighting together, we are representatives of the people, it is appropriate to fight for the fate of the people, in this case students,” he explained.

Mgs Syaiful Fadli said the same thing, according to him, the DPRD, especially Commission V, will fight for the fate of the students.

“Don’t let anyone drop out (DO). We will immediately send a letter and hopefully there will be a solution,” he explained.

Syaiful Fadli, also asked the students not to behave strangely, and to force themselves to be able to pay off the UKT.

“Don’t let the brothers and sisters make a strange attitude. Until someone wants to sell their pride,” he asked.

Meanwhile, dozens of students from UIN Raden Fatah, gathered at the South Sumatra Provincial DPRD, and dozens of students came to complain about their fate to the council members.

Representing hundreds of other students, they objected to the rectorate’s no longer enacting UKT cuts. Whereas previously, students received UKT discounts ranging from 10, 80 to 100 percent.

Student representatives, Lovi Andiko, stated that they visited the DPRD regarding the UIN Chancellor’s Decree which they considered pllin pln.

“SK dated January 4, 2022, there is assistance from covid-19. Where the assistance is given 10 percent for students semester 1 to semester 6. Furthermore, 80 percent there is a special final semester. Meanwhile, 100 percent of students receive UKT assistance for those affected or families who have been positively affected by COVID,” he explained.

His party also reported to the DPRD to bridge them, in order to mediate between students and the rectorate.

“Even if we talk about impacts, all are affected, all are affected. But clearly we love the first SK point. First, it does not explain quotas and limits. And suddenly on January 25, 2022, they couldn’t pay and the bank said there was a problem. Furthermore, the SK family has a limit,” he explained.

Another student, Rizki, said that there were many complaints that entered the ears of students.

“To be honest, we have a friend who has been affected by COVID-19. His parents died from Covid. And declared 100 percent UKT free. However, after the new decree was issued, he had to pay 100 percent UKT. We can’t imagine this,” said Andre.

Another thing experienced by final exam students is that they sell a lot of laptops and other furniture to pay for UKT.

“Because they don’t have money anymore to pay UKT. So are their parents in trouble. In fact, we have even heard from friends that there is even an open BO to pay for UKT,” he said in front of the council members.

According to Andre, initially the policy of cutting UKT affected by COVID-19 was given to more than 9,000 students.

“The process starts on January 4, 2022. Then there are changes. So far there are approximately 500 students who have not paid and they feel humiliated,” he concluded. (ojn/bbs/ril)
