South Sumatra Strengthens Synergy with the Central Government in 2026 Forest Fire Alert

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru together with Deputy Governor Cik Ujang attended the 2026 National Forest and Land Fire Preparedness Roll Call & Reactivation of the Forest and Land Fire Desk at Griya Agung, Palembang (6/5/2026).

The roll call was led directly by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, General TNI (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago. In his remarks, the Coordinating Minister emphasized the solidarity of the TNI, Polri, government, and business community in protecting South Sumatra’s vulnerable peatlands.

“Don’t wait for the fire to grow. Every detected hotspot must be immediately verified and addressed in the field,” the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs emphasized.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the peak of the dry season will occur in August. Strengthening efforts are focused on vulnerable areas such as Ogan Ilir, Banyuasin, Muba, Muara Enim, and Greater OKU.

As a tangible form of support, the Central Government is distributing Rp 2.8 billion in aid to equip the South Sumatra Provincial Government and four of the most vulnerable areas with forest and land fire control equipment. The event concluded with an integrated fire response simulation to ensure all personnel and equipment are ready for combat. (mhn/ril)
