Without a regional budget, Herman Deru ignites the spirit of mutual cooperation: Targeting 6,121 house renovations in South Sumatra by 2026

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru, directly reviewed the implementation of the Joint Movement for the Improvement of Uninhabitable Houses (Gebrak Rutilahu) in South Sumatra Province in 2026 which was located on Jalan Pantai Musi, Kelurahan 11 Ulu Palembang, Tuesday (5/5).

In this concrete action, two homes belonging to residents, Mrs. Nurmalinda and Mr. Zainal Arifin, were selected for complete renovations. This program is part of a larger target to improve the quality of 6,121 uninhabitable houses (RTLH) across 17 regencies/cities across South Sumatra by 2026.

“Involving everyone to contribute and believe in this movement is extraordinary. Back in 2012, I earned a MURI record for renovating a house without a regional budget. Today, we’re proving it again. By providing the channel, the community’s fundamental spirit of mutual cooperation will be ignited and they will help each other,” said Herman Deru.

He added that this progress is in line with the 3 Million Homes Program, where cross-sector collaboration is key to bringing happiness to those in need.

The inspection was filled with emotion, especially for Mrs. Nurmalinda, a widow with three children who struggles daily on the streets as an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver.

“I am very grateful to the Governor for his concern. We are very happy and grateful that our house has been renovated to make it habitable. This means a lot for my children’s future,” said Nurmalinda, her eyes welling with tears.

The Gebrak Rutilahu movement wasn’t just centered in Palembang. Simultaneously, similar activities were held throughout South Sumatra. Herman Deru met and interacted directly with the Regents and Mayors via Zoom.

Also present were heads of regional government agencies (OPD). (mhn/ril)
