Task Force: 61,135,788 people have undergone the third COVID-19 vaccination

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The COVID-19 Task Force reported that 61,135,788 Indonesians had undergone the third vaccination, according to data compiled in Jakarta, Tuesday.

In addition, as many as 203,425,374 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

There were 171,111,977 people who had undergone the full dose of vaccination.

The government held the fourth dose of COVID-29 vaccination for health workers, and currently 427,323 people have undergone it.

The government targets 234,666,020 people in Indonesia to undergo the COVID-19 vaccination program to achieve herd immunity from diseases that attack the respiratory system.

Previously, Epidemiologist from Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta (UGM) Bayu Satria Wiratama emphasized that vaccination coverage and the high number of testing are determinants of whether or not many people are safe to move from COVID-19 transmission.

When looking at the global situation, countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United States, Germany, and Russia have experienced a very significant increase in positive confirmed cases even though the vaccination coverage has exceeded Indonesia.

Bayu said that although vaccination coverage in some developed countries was already very high, the high number of cases was due to the assumption that the distribution of vaccines to each age group was not evenly distributed.

The provision of the COVID-19 vaccine to the elderly in Hong Kong, for example, is still lower than that of other age groups. In fact, the country has a very large number of elderly people.

Considering that vaccination can relieve the symptoms of COVID-19, Indonesia should be able to reflect on the fact that vaccination coverage, especially giving the second dose to the elderly, should really be increased. (mhn/bbs)
