Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Member of Commission III House of Representatives (DPR RI) Andi Rio Idris Padjalangi hopes that the welfare and safety of fishermen can be a common concern, especially the government, especially in the momentum of National Fisherman’s Day.
“Fishermen are very useful for all of us, they fight against the waves in the middle of the ocean to support their families and meet the nutritional needs of the Indonesian people without exception, fishermen deserve more attention from the government,” said Andi Rio in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday.
He explained that the current government has given special attention to Indonesian fishermen by providing adequate facilities and infrastructure.
However, according to him, this must be followed by the provision of technical guidance and socialization of legal issues that apply in domestic and international waters.
“Fishermen should be given legal advice so that they can know what to do and what not to do. Indonesian fishermen must have an inherent love for their homeland,” he said.
According to him, this is so that Indonesian fishermen are not easily tempted and exploited by foreign parties who often steal fish in Indonesia by tricking security officers with Indonesian flags.
The Golkar Party politician also asked fishermen to work legally and not to violate international seas by doing illegal fishing.
In addition, he hopes that fishermen will not steal fish in their own country for the benefit of foreigners who lure higher welfare.
“We hope that no more Indonesian fishermen will be caught on the high seas for illegal fishing,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
