The VP and HD held a friendly meeting with students at the Muqimussunnah Islamic Boarding School Banyuasin Regency

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – On the second day of his working visit to South Sumatra Province (Sumsel), Vice President (Wapres) KH Ma’ruf Amin held a friendly meeting with a number of caretakers and students of the Muqimussunnah Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) Kenten Laut, Talang Kelapa District, Banyuasin Regency, Friday (7/7) ).

In his opponent at the Muqimussunnah Islamic boarding school, the Vice President was accompanied by his wife Hj Wury Ma’ruf Amin, the Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru and the Chairperson of the South Sumatran TP PKK Hj Febrita Lustia HD.

The Vice President’s delegation arrived at the location at around 10.00 WIB and immediately held a friendly meeting with the ulema and caretakers of the Muqimussunnah Islamic Boarding School in private. After almost 2 hours of holding a closed meeting at around 12.00 WIT the Vice President together with his entourage accompanied by Governor Herman Deru headed to the mosque in the Islamic boarding school complex to hold Friday prayers in congregation.

After holding the congregational prayer, the Vice President had the opportunity to symbolically hand over scholarship assistance to a number of students.

In his press conference, the Vice President emphasized that in the life of the nation and state, the Ulama have at least two responsibilities, namely in the field of religion in terms of fostering the Ummah and responsibility to the nation and state.

The Vice President admitted that he was concerned that in today’s modern era many people have tended to leave religion. Because of that the role of the clergy is needed in coaching the people so they don’t forget Allah SWT.

As a nation that believes in the one and only God. Scholars must also protect the ummah from distorted views and issues.

Apart from that, the Vice President continued, it is the responsibility of the nation and the state. The ulema is a national responsibility.

“The principle that we adhere to is that love for the motherland is part of faith. Consequently, we must have responsibility for the problems of this nation. Whoever is in power, whoever is the leader of the nation, the clergy are part of the people who must protect this country and this nation. This is a big responsibility,” he concluded. (mhn/ril)
