Surabaya, The Indonesia Post – Zainudin Amali stated that he was no longer serving as Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) after his resignation letter was officially received by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
“I met Pak Jokowi on Monday, I met him this morning. He said he had received a letter, allowing him to resign from the Menpora,” said Zainudin Amali while accompanying Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) General Chair Erick Thohir to visit the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), Surabaya, Monday.
Amali, who is currently Deputy Chairman of PSSI, revealed that he resigned from the Menpora chair because he wanted to focus on managing Indonesian football, accompanying Erick Thohir.
“I will concentrate and focus on managing PSSI with Pak Erick Thohir and other officials. We will focus on football. As of today, I beg my friends not to ask any more questions about that (clarification of Menpora’s position),” he said.
Amali admitted that he also received a number of messages from the president regarding his new position as deputy chairman of PSSI, one of which was the issue of developing the quality of Indonesian football.
He also admitted that he was ready to fulfill the president’s wishes, especially that football is also a sport that he likes very much.
“Mr. President told me to pay attention to sports (football), that’s for sure because my passion is in sports,” he said.
Regarding who will fill the Menpora chair, Amali said that was the authority of the president. All matters related to future developments depend on the decisions taken by President Jokowi.
“About who will replace me, Mr. President Jokowi will be announced,” he said.
PSSI conducted an inspection at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) to ensure readiness to hold the U-20 World Cup matches which will be held from 20 May to 11 June 2023.
There are six stadiums that are projected to be the venue for the match, namely Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (Jakarta), Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Bali), Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), Jakabaring Stadium (Palembang) , and Manahan Stadium (Solo).
