DPR members appreciate the Police and TNI for handling the April 11 demonstration

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Andi Rio Idris Padjalangi appreciated the Police and TNI officers who worked professionally, persuasively, and prioritized the humanist side in securing the April 11 demonstration in front of the Senayan DPR Building and a number of areas.

“Thank you to the police, TNI, and other related parties, for being alert and working hard to secure the demonstrators’ actions. Hopefully, the tired security forces on guard will become a field of reward, especially during the month of Ramadan,” said Andi Rio in a statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He explained that the demonstration was an effort to express opinions in public which is guaranteed by the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. However, according to him, demonstrations must proceed according to the corridor while maintaining peace and avoiding any disturbances.

“The demonstration must have a clear corridor, what can be done and what can’t be done. Thank God the action went peacefully, although there were beatings in front of the DPR Building during the demonstration. Let law enforcement officers work to investigate this,” he said.

Previously, a number of students who were members of the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) alliance in Jakarta and various regions held demonstrations to reject the postponement of the 2024 Simultaneous Elections and did not agree to extend the presidential term to three terms.

The demonstration in front of the DPR/MPR Building in Senayan was peaceful and the demonstrators were met by the Deputy Speakers of the DPR, such as Lodewijk Paulus, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, and Rachmat Gobel, accompanied by the National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo. (ojn/bbs)
