Sandiaga Uno supports the plan to open the National Monument area for tourists

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno supports the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan to reopen the National Monument (Monas) area, Jakarta, for tourists.

“This Monas has been eagerly awaited. It is hoped that in the next two weeks it will be able to reopen,” he said after the “Halal bi Halal Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy” event at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday, through an official statement.

According to him, the opening of the National Monument will have a major impact on the tourism sector and the creative economy considering that the area is a favorite destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

“Because we have international events and national events, many of them are interested in coming to Jakarta, and Monas will be the main attraction. Many activities also want to use Monas as a backdrop for these activities,” said the Menparekraf.

According to Sandiaga, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan to open the Monas area is influenced by the controlled COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Moreover, he continued, some time ago President Joko Widodo announced that the policy on wearing masks was relaxed for people in open areas.

However, he reminded the public not to be complacent with this policy so that they neglect to implement health protocols.

The use of masks is said to still apply to residents who carry out activities in closed rooms and public transportation, as well as to people categorized as vulnerable, elderly, or have congenital diseases.

“With these relaxations, don’t make us complacent and make us careless now. The hope is, with the COVID-19 number that is still under control, this will actually be a trigger for the acceleration of our revival of momentum in the post-Eid holiday for our economic revival,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
