Ministry of Agriculture: Indonesian Floriculture has the potential to dominate the international market

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Director General of Horticulture of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) Prihasto Setyanto believes that Indonesian floriculture is able to dominate the international market through the diversity of plant species that are of interest to the global community.

“The floriculture industry has continued to experience significant growth over the past few decades. The growth of floriculture needs in the domestic market on average per year reaches around 21.8 percent. In an effort to increase national economic growth, we hope that the floriculture industry can play a bigger role,” said Prihasto in his statement in Jakarta, Sunday.

Prihasto said Indonesia has the potential to take share in the international floriculture market, as well as strengthen the domestic market with advantages in natural resources, agro-climate, and human resources that are used optimally.

“We believe that Indonesia is able to compete in the world market. In order to improve product competitiveness, we make efforts to improve the quality, productivity and efficiency of floriculture production. Besides that, it also supports innovative technology that is ready to be applied in the field,” said Prihasto.

Prihasto explained that the One Day with Indonesian Coffee, Fruits, and Floriculture (ODICOFF) activity which has been taking place in several countries since 2021 has become one of the floriculture promotion events encouraged by the government.

“At that time we were present in 10 countries, namely the Netherlands, Morocco, Denmark, Serbia, the United States, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Romania and Egypt, resulting in export contracts worth IDR 7.2 trillion,” said Prihasto.

The Ministry of Agriculture carries out various technological, institutional and management innovations in accordance with the progress of domestic floriculture. One of the concepts being developed is the Floriculture Village, which aims to build a floriculture area within an economic-scale village or sub-district administrative area that benefits farmers.

“We are currently developing 105 Floriculture Villages. Through this village concept, it is hoped that a floriculture area will be built in an economic-scale village or urban village administrative area that benefits farmers,” explained Prihasto.

Prihasto attended the international floriculture exhibition, Floriculture Indonesia International Convex (FLOII) 2022, which took place from 14-16 October 2022 in Jakarta. A total of 110 ornamental plant tenants participated consisting of cut flowers, cut leaves, potted ornamental plants, ornamental plants, gardens, aquatic plants, flower arrangements, and flower seeds.
