President orders the Minister of Agriculture to check rice stock data

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo ordered Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo to factually check the current national rice stock data.

“I was given one week to re-check the factual data, together with all levels, governors, regents,” Syahrul told reporters after meeting President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Monday.

The Minister of Agriculture said that during the meeting, President Jokowi asked about the availability and condition of rice prices in the market.

According to Syahrul, based on data and balance sheets owned by the Ministry of Agriculture, the current availability of rice is sufficient.

“In fact, this year from the prognosis presented by BPS and by our reviewers, our experts, this is the highest production in our highest harvest in March-April above 18.3 million tons. Then our second harvest in August-October was even 13 coma so many (million tons). Therefore, BPS data also shows that the stocks are there, 60 percent in the hands of the people themselves, “he explained.

Syahrul said President Jokowi ordered to carry out a very sufficient stock of rice reserves in the Logistics Affairs Agency (Bulog).

“That I will pursue in a very short time,” he added.

According to Syahrul, with the availability of sufficient rice stock, it is hoped that rice price fluctuations can be handled. His party has committed together with the Minister of Trade, Bulog, Bappenas to jointly see the availability of rice stocks.

“I am very sure that the availability is sufficient. That the data currently available in 2022 is very large. The productivity of the land that we are planting is very large. You may ask everyone, we have never had rotten land, there is no land that is (affected) by a maximum disaster. Therefore, it is still the same the results. We can estimate according to the assumptions or theories that will get the results, “he explained. (mhn/bbs)
