Ministry of Defense: Cassava Development Supports National Strategic Food Reserves

Gunung Mas, The Indonesia Post – The government develops cassava commodity in Central Kalimantan Province (Kalimantan Tengah) to support the national strategic Food reserve program, and this activity starts from Gunung Mas Regency.

“The cassava commodity was chosen to support the national strategic food reserve program, because cassava can produce many derivatives, such as noodles, tapioca and mocaf,” said Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.

For 2021, the plan to develop the cassava commodity in Gunung Mas is approximately 30 thousand hectares and currently cultivated land has an area of ​​634 hectares, and 32 hectares of cassava has been planted.

Prabowo conveyed that his arrival today was also to absorb the aspirations of the local community regarding the development of a food estate, as well as what needs to be prepared so that the implementation at Gunung Mas runs well.

“This policy at the same time supports the national strategic food reserve program,” he explained.

He explained, the development of a food estate has become a decision by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jokowi, whose intent and purpose are to overcome the various possibilities that the Indonesian nation will face.

Various possibilities are referred to, such as the world food crisis as a result of the current Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Whatever we are, we do not depend on other countries,” said Prabowo Subianto.

During his working visit, Defense Minister Prabowo was accompanied by the Governor of Central Kalimantan, Sugianto Sabran. Apart from that, the Central Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Pol Dedi Prasetyo, Danrem 102 / Pjg Brigadier General Purwo Sudaryanto, Regent Gunung Mas Jaya S Monong and several other related parties were also present at the event.
