Moeldoko: End the polemic over the extension of President Jokowi’s term of office

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko asked the public to end the polemic of extending President Joko Widodo’s term of office.

“It’s clear what else the president wants to say? There are still questions about this, once again I remind you that this is enough polemic,” said Moeldoko at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Jakarta office, Wednesday.

Previously, the Indonesian Student Alliance (AMI) on Friday (1/4) held an action related to President Jokowi’s tenure. Students have even threatened to hold larger demonstrations in the event of a postponement of the election and an extension of the president’s term.

“I want to emphasize to the people of Indonesia, it’s enough not to have polemics about a three-term position, just an extension. The president has said that firmly, don’t become fried ingredients that are not of good quality,” added Moeldoko.

According to Moeldoko, the government is currently focusing on thinking that the COVID-19 pandemic has not yet been completed.

“Secondly, the government is thinking about scenarios for dealing with a war between Ukraine and Russia. What will the impact be? The scenarios have been prepared, the impact on the economy,” he said.

Moeldoko asked all parties to think ahead. “Don’t go round and round, this nation is talking about things that are not productive. Talk about an extension of talking for three periods,” he emphasized.

President Jokowi himself on March 30, 2022 said that all parties must obey the constitution of the 1945 Constitution regarding the discourse on extending the president’s term of office.

“I’ve often heard the name of the people’s wishes, I’ve heard screams like that. But what’s clear is that our constitution is clear. We must obey, we must obey the constitution, yes,” said President Jokowi in Magelang district, Central Java.

The discourse on extending the President’s term of office has warmed up again, for example, during the National Gathering (Silatnas) of the Association of Indonesian Village Governments (Apdesi) on Tuesday (29/3).

In the Apdesi Silatnas which was also attended by President Joko Widodo, General Chairperson of Apdesi Surta Wijaya said that his party would make a declaration of support for President Jokowi to serve three terms after Eid 2022. (mhn/bbs)
