Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo will receive the Global Citizen Award from the think-tank Atlantic Council, based in the United States, in a series of United Nations General Assembly (SMU PBB) sessions, said the Director General of Multilateral Cooperation of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tri Tharyat. in a press briefing in Jakarta, Monday.
“Mr. President will be given a prestigious award called the 2022 Global Citizen Award,” said Tri.
He explained that the award is given annually to state leaders and individual figures who are considered to have made a major contribution to humanity.
“Why he (President Jokowi) was chosen because once again this award is a form of recognition for Indonesia’s leadership in the G20, especially in encouraging collaboration and handling global issues,” he said.
In addition, Jokowi’s efforts in creating international peace and post-pandemic cooperation are also one of the factors highlighted in the process of determining the award.
“And especially what has received widespread attention is his presence in Moscow and Kiev as a form of the President’s political support for efforts to achieve solutions to the food, energy and financial crises,” he added.
In addition, Tri said that the award also pays homage to the various achievements of the President in his political career, where he started his journey from the bottom or what is called from humble beginnings.
The Atlantic Council has called the Global Citizen Award an award given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to strengthening trans-Atlantic relations.
Besides President Jokowi, this year’s award recipients include the Prime Minister of Sweden and the President of Finland.
The President of the Republic of Indonesia will be represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi in receiving the award and conveying his message via video recording. (mhn/bbs)
