Palembang, TheIndonesiaPost – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru Continues to strive to maintain availability including stabilizing the supply and prices of food commodities. Given the availability and food security is the most important factor for the survival of the entire community.
“The Provincial Government is very concerned about Food Availability and resilience, because of that I always monitor it, both directly at the Logistics Agency Bulog warehouse, at the Market and at the People’s Agricultural Land,” said Deru some time ago.
While in a separate place the Regional Secretary of South Sumatra Province H. Nasrun Umar, after attending a meeting of regional food security teams organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The Coordination Meeting was chaired by Acting Director. Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Ministry of Home Affairs) Dr. Ir. Muhammad Hudori, M.Sc, and followed by all Regencies, Cities, and Provinces in Indonesia.
Located in the Command Center Room, Friday (5/15) afternoon, Regional Secretary of the South Sumatra Province H Nasrun Umar said the South Sumatra Provincial Government had compiled operational steps in maintaining food availability, mainly on rice as a strategic commodity and needed by all communities.
“Food availability is the main thing that the government must anticipate in order to deal with this pandemic, therefore we take steps and efforts, among others, to analyze the availability of staple food on a scale basis to find out whether the main burden is surplus or minus,” he said.
Nasrun described the next steps in detail, monitoring prices as a reflection of the availability and purchasing power of the people, monitoring stock at the logistical and distributor.
Then motivate and initiate farmers to maintain and even increase agricultural production, and activate the use of yard activities.
“Production input assistance in the form of seeds and fertilizers in the regency/city in the group of farmers, the construction of agricultural irrigation networks, carrying out a program of optimization of paddy fields to increase planting area and productivity of farmers,” he added.
For the Province of South Sumatra, some commodities are enough to sustain the next 10 months or even more, the commodities in question are rice, corn, chili, chicken meat, and eggs.
While the Head of the Agriculture Service of South Sumatra Province, Ir. Antoni Alam, M.Si added, this South Sumatra province, if for own stock of South Sumatra up to one year in the future, it is still safe, even able to cover in 5 neighboring provinces.
“So, if we ourselves are sure to be safe for the next year if the price is good, the weather is good, there is no need to be ordered nor farmers will want to plant, so now the weather is quite good until now it is still raining then the price of fishing interest of farmers.
