Acting Governor Fatoni Invites Village Heads and Communities to Become Foster Parents to Reduce Stunting Rates

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Acting Governor of South Sumatra, Agus Fatoni attended the Nuzul Qur’an Commemoration and Breaking the Fast with the Community of the District. East Buay Madang, East OKU Regency at the Jami’ Riadlul Ma’Wa Mosque, Raman Agung Village, Sunday (7/4/2024).

Through this opportunity, Fatoni in his speech said that his presence was in order to stay in touch with the people of East Buay Madang District, where the area is where he returned home.

“When I go to this area, I come to Buay Madang and I go back to my village. My village is in this area, I was born in Sukabumi village on the border with Lampung Province. “I’m here to meet you to stay in touch,” he said.

Fatoni also said that many great figures came from East OKU Regency, both at regional, provincial and national levels. He hopes that this can be a motivation for the community to provide the highest level of education to their children.

“Even though we are on the border between South Sumatra and Lampung, it doesn’t mean we are left behind and not progressing, the proof is that many figures come from here. “That’s why I hope our children have the enthusiasm and motivation to study hard so that they become successful people in this world and the hereafter,” he said.

In this regard, A. Fatoni asked the people of Kec. Buay Madang Timur can provide the highest level of education to their children, because good education is one way to break the chain of extreme poverty.

“The government wants people to have higher education because education is one way to break the chain of poverty. With education and knowledge, they will have skills that can equip them to earn income and have a job. “Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, we ensure that our children go to school,” he stressed.

Regarding stunting, A. Fatoni appealed to the community and village heads to take part in efforts to reduce the stunting rate in South Sumatra by adopting stunted children as foster children who are given nutritious food every day.

“We have to solve the stunting rate of 18% in East OKU. We will handle this together, record it and later we will adopt it as a foster child, a capable neighbor who can help give stunted children nutritious food. The Village Head must also support this program, involving the capable community. “These children must be given nutritious food every day,” said Fatoni giving directions.

Apart from that, A. Fatoni asked the Village Head to budget village funds for handling stunting and house renovations in order to eradicate extreme poverty in South Sumatra.

Next, A. Fatoni handed over monetary compensation to orphans, basic necessities to the community and Al Qur’an and operational money to the Chairman of the Jami’ Riadlul Ma’Wa Mosque, Raman Agung Village.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Jami’ Riadlul Ma’Wa Mosque, Raman Agung Village, M. Lukman Hakim expressed his gratitude for the Pj. The Governor of South Sumatra, A. Fatoni, was present at the event.

“We would like to thank the Governor for his presence. We are grateful because all the operational funds for this activity were assisted by you,” he said.
