Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru (HD) accompanied by the Chairperson of the TP PKK of South Sumatra Province, Hj. Feby Herman Deru attended the Plenary Meeting of the Pagaralam City DPRD in order to Commemorate the 24th Anniversary of Pagaralam City in 2025 led by the Chairperson of the Pagaralam City DPRD, Hj. Jenni Shandiyah, SE, MH in the Pagaralam City DPRD Meeting Room (Monday, 6/23/2025).
On that occasion, HD expressed high appreciation for the commitment of the Pagar Alam City Government in maintaining the sustainability of nature while making it the city’s identity.
HD also revealed that Pagar Alam is the only city in Indonesia that has 100% used new renewable energy to meet its electricity needs. Where the transition from fossil energy to microhydro energy was carried out symbolically by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia.
“This is an achievement that is not only a matter of pride nationally, but also at the world level. This is not just a technological achievement, but a legacy that we must continue to maintain and market as the face of a green and sustainable South Sumatra,” said HD.
HD assessed that this success cannot be separated from the role of the ancestors in preserving the local wisdom and culture of the Pagar Alam community in preserving the natural environment they have.
Therefore, HD hopes that the Pagaralam government can continue to preserve nature and pass on culture and customs to future generations.
Regarding the Microhydro Power Plant (PLTMH) which is currently only owned by Pagaralam, HD requested that the green energy be continuously promoted so that it is better known as an educational tourist destination.
HD did not forget to remind us of the importance of maintaining local identity amidst the flow of modernization and digitalization. He considered that not all trends from foreign cultures are suitable to be adopted just like that, including in terms of development, technology, and lifestyle.
