Palembang, The Indonesia Post – In an effort to provide protection from the risk of work accidents for oil palm farmers in South Sumatra, Acting Governor of South Sumatra Elen Setiadi launched a social security protection activity for oil palm farmers, of which there are already 19,023 participants who have registered with BPJS Employment from 120 institutions in South Sumatra. Palembang, (05/09/2025).
Elen Setiadi said that the potential for oil palm development in South Sumatra is still very large, but the safety aspect must also be taken into account for the comfort and safety of workers.
“We hope that this program can increase awareness to become participants in social security for workers and we also hope that it will be an example for other informal sectors in social protection efforts for all Indonesian people, especially the people of South Sumatra Province,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Head of the South Sumatra Provincial Plantation Service, Agus Darwa, reported that the funding for this activity came partly from the profit sharing funds (DBH) of the oil palm plantation sector from the amount that had been recorded from the plasma of 29,000 oil palm farmer participants.
“The number of registered farmers from this plasma is 29,000 farmers, but due to time constraints for verification, this budget year can realize 19,023 farmers and God willing, in 2025 36,000 participants have been budgeted,” he explained.
Which he continued from the data that has been recorded comes from nine regencies as buffers/oil palm producers in South Sumatra, including Muara Enim Regency 17 institutions, Musi Rawas 10 institutions, Muratara 2 institutions, Banyuasin 8 institutions, OKI 38 institutions, Musi Banyuasin 34 institutions, Lahat 7 institutions, Prabumulih 1 institution and OKU 3 institutions.
Also present were the Head of the South Sumatra BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Regional Office Muhyidin, representatives of oil palm farmers and other OPD Heads. (ojn/ril)
