South Sumatra Governor Kicks Off UIBA Cup, Urges Youth to Harness Sportsmanship for Future Leadership

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru officially inaugurated the Pekan Olahraga dan Seni (PORSENI) UIBA Cup at Universitas IBA Palembang on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

In his remarks, Governor Deru highlighted the importance of upholding sportsmanship and using the event as a platform to strengthen camaraderie and expand social networks. He also reminded participants that they are the future leaders of the nation and must make the most of their youth in preparing for Indonesia’s demographic bonus era.

IBA Rector, Lily Harahap, SE., MM., reported that the competition attracted thousands of participants from South Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Riau, competing in seven sports and four arts categories. She also expressed gratitude to the Governor for supporting prizes for the winners of this year’s PORSENI.

Governor Deru further emphasized that the provincial government fully supports positive initiatives that foster a generation of healthy, intelligent, and globally competitive youth—without losing touch with local cultural values.

Concluding his address, the Governor encouraged participants to compete with spirit, uphold sportsmanship, and build meaningful connections for a better future.

The event was also attended by the Chairwoman of PMI Palembang, Dewi Sastrani Ratu Dewa, South Sumatra Youth and Sports Agency Head Rudi Irawan, S.Sos., M.Si., along with other officials.
