Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Following the collapse of the Muara Lawai Bridge in Merapi Timur District, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru presided over the signing of the minutes of agreement for the bridge’s reconstruction on Saturday (August 30, 2025).
Herman Deru stated that following the bridge collapse, he immediately coordinated with various parties, including the Ministry of Public Works, to rebuild the bridge.
He commended the sense of responsibility shown by the coal mining companies who were willing to build a new bridge, rather than simply rehabilitate it. The Governor emphasized the importance of building a bridge of higher quality.
Meanwhile, Andi Asmara, Chairman of the South Sumatra Coal Mining Association, stated that this bridge has been a primary access point since 1980. Therefore, the Muara Lawai Bridge must be rebuilt immediately to avoid obstructing public traffic. (rys/ril)
