Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru officially opened the 2026 Regional Business Forum (FORBISDA), initiated by the South Sumatra Regional Leadership Council (BPD HIPMI) at the Sultan Convention Center on Wednesday (April 29). In his remarks, Herman Deru emphasized the importance of young entrepreneurs in strengthening the regional economy through downstreaming strategies.
He emphasized that the mindset of selling raw materials must be immediately abandoned. “Our main opportunity lies in adding value through further processing. Young people must be ready to become key players and bridges for foreign investment entering South Sumatra,” said Herman Deru.
He further challenged HIPMI cadres to go down to the village level as economic motivators. He believes the managerial expertise of young people is crucial to optimize the village’s untapped potential.
The Chairman of the South Sumatra Regional Leadership Council (BPD) of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (HIPMI), M. Puri Andamas, explained that FORBISDA, which took place from April 29-30, focused on mapping strategic collaborations in leading commodities such as coffee, palm oil, and coconut. This forum is expected to foster an upstream-to-downstream business ecosystem that will create new jobs in South Sumatra. (mhn/ril)
